Twelve players have been selected from the Nyanza North Football Kenya Federation (FKF) branch to join the National U20 football team, commonly referred to as the Rising Stars.  

Nyanza North FKF branch comprises of Kisumu and Siaya Counties. The selection exercise was conducted at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Saturday, spearheaded by National Soccer Team Harambee Stars assistant Coach Stanly Okumbi.

The players selected to join the U20 team from Nyanza North FKF branch are Eugene Nelson, Patrick Ochieng, Elisha Owino, Ibrahim Ochieng, Carlos Sakwa, Marvine Otieno, Nixon Michu, Ian Samuel, Jairus Omondi, Elisha Odhiambo, Kevin Ouma and Bernard Ogot.

The selection exercise targeted players who were scouted during the ongoing Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Youth Tournament reserved for players under the age of 20.“

Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Youth Tournament gave us a wide pool of talented players who we can consider for our National U20 team. This selection exercise is meant to further assess the best performers of the tourney as we build a team for the upcoming U20 national team assignments,” said FKF CEO Robert Muthomi before the exercise kicked off.

The selected players are set to report to camp on Monday, February 12, 2018, in Nairobi, ahead of a four nations tournament scheduled to be held in Egypt in March this year.
