Police officers in Eldoret town have arrested over 100 youths for allegedly presenting fake Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) calling letters.
The 120 youths were arrested on Sunday as they reported to the Recruits Training School (RTS) at Kamagut, Turbo constituency in Uasin Gishu County.
According to Brigadier Martin Angonyi, the calling letters presented by the youths were fake. This was discovered during the reporting of youths who were successful during the recently concluded nationwide KDF recruitment exercise.
“We have discovered that 120 personnel have letters which cannot be authoritatively be confirmed to have been issued by KDF and therefore we are handing owners of those letters to the police to carry out investigations,” Angonyi told the press.
He expressed concerns over the increasing cases of fae calling letters and warned the public to beware of cartels out to fleece them millions of shillings with the promise of giving them the letters to join the KDF.
“Public should be made aware that fake letters are in circulation and they are being conned a lot of millions of shillings as those letters are not from us,” noted the KDF officer.
“I know there will be many more of this cases because the exercise has just begun and some are still coming. Some came up to the gate and run away” he added.
The arrest comes just a day after two suspects were arrested for allegedly swindling unsuspecting members of the public millions of swindling promising that they will be given the KDF calling letters.
Last year 65 youths were arrested and prosecuted for also presenting fake calling letters.
Those arrested have been locked up at the Eldoret central police station and are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.
