The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives have arrested two members of the Nairobi County Assembly (MCAs).
The two, David Mberi (Karen Ward) and Jared Okoth (Mathare North) were nabbed on Friday over bribery allegations.
In a tweet on Friday, the EACC said, “@EACCKenya arrests two MCAs of Nairobi County, Hon David Mberi, MCA Langata/Karen ward and Hon Jared Okoth, MCA Mathare North.”
In the tweet, the commission added, “Hon Abraham Mwangi of Woodley/Kenyatta Golf course ward escaped arrest and is being sought. The two are held @EACCKenya police station.”
According to EACC, the three MCAs are members of the County Assembly Culture and Social Services Committee.
The legislators allegedly demanded Sh1 million in order to make a favourable report to the assembly to counter initial allegation they had made to the county assembly that a private school in Eastleigh was illegal.
The two MCAs are expected to spend the weekend in custody before their arraignment to court on Monday.
The EACC says a man-hunt for the MCA who escaped is on.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has severally castigated a section of MCAs who he claims are corrupt.
Sonko has warned that his administration will not tolerate corruption and says he will work closely with relevant agencies to tame the vice in the county.
