Outgoing Education minister Amina Mohammed has failed President Uhuru Kenyatta for his continued faith in her following the latest cabinet reshuffle on Friday in which she was affected directly.
Through an Executive Order No 3, in what could be seen as a demotion, Ms Mohammed was redeployed to less lucrative sports ministry from the education docket, which controls huge amount of budget.
“That the portfolio responsibilities and changes in the structure of government set out in the order shall come into immediate effect and the Executive Order No.1 of 2018 (nominated and reassigning the Cabinet) is hereby further amended accordingly,” reads the President’s Order.
But the career diplomat, who at one point competed unsuccessfully to be chairperson of AU Commission, seemed satisfied with the changes and ready to execute her tasks.
"It is with humility and high honour that I thank His Excellency @UKenyatta for according me the opportunity to serve as CS @ForeignOfficeKE, CS @EduMinKenya and now as CS @moscakenya," she wrote on Twitter.
Amina added: "I congratulate my colleague in the sector @ExamsCouncil Chairman Prof. George Magoha on his nomination to @EduMinKenya. I thank all the sector players and development partners for their tremendous support throughout my headship at the Ministry."
She was appointed to education docket in January 2018 and has since struggled to fit into the shoes of her predecessor Dr Fred Matiang'i, who is cherished for transformative leadership in different ministries.
Her stint at education docket saw defiance from a number of people with university students threatening recently when she reportedly agreed to have tuition fee increased.
