Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has attacked Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha after he allegedly snubbed a school function in his county.
This is after the CS failed to grace a cheque presentation event at Gathinja Secondary School in Kiharu Constituency on Saturday.
The Senator was presenting a cheque of Sh2.5 million that President Uhuru Kenyatta promised the school when he attended his wedding last year.
In an interview with Sunday Nation, Kang'ata said he had wanted the Education CS to represent the President at the event, but he (Magoha) refused to meet him when he sought an appointment.
“I tried to secure an appointment with Mr Magoha to represent the President during the cheque presentation to the school but he refused to see me,” he claimed.
The CS who was appointed about three months ago has been on the receiving end from a section of politicians for allegedly being a dictator and failing to consult other stakeholders in the education sector.
Interestingly, Magoha had warned MPs during his vetting that he won't listen to them, but to President Uhuru who appointed him.
"Even the Jubilee party hardcores will not deliver as much as I will. I will serve the commander-in-chief. I will not listen to the politics. There are people singing Jubilee all over the place but when you measure I will have done more," he was quoted by Citizen Digital.
Kang'ata said technocrats like Magoha had proved that CSs should not be appointed from outside Parliament but among MPs.
“The current model of selecting the Cabinet secretaries encourages laxity among ministers. They have nothing to lose when they don’t launch development projects and we are pushing for the model where Cabinet ministers will be picked from MPs,” the Senator was quoted by the Daily Nation.
