Garissa is one of the counties that have in recent years been hit by deadly terrorist attacks.
The April 2, 2015 attack at the Garissa University College that left 147 students dead and others injured was one of the worst attacks.
Though the government has tightened security in the fight against terrorism, terror agents and their networks remain a threat.
The government has vowed to tame terrorism and their agents.
As patriotic citizens here is what we can do to stop terrorist activities:
1. Report suspicious people to police
As citizens, we must be vigilant, curious and report suspicious people to the police.
It is our duty to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of terror masterminds and their networks.
2. Report suspicious activities
As citizens, we must be on the look-out and report suspicious activities.
It will not cost you anything if you spot a strange activity and report to the authorities.
As citizens, we should not allow strange people to do suspicious activities in our estates, homes or even villages.
3. Embrace and adopt security initiatives
The government has initiated various security measures aimed at fighting terrorism and crime.
Such measures include the ‘Nyumba Kumi'.
As citizens, we must embrace ‘Nyumba Kumi’ and help the government and security agencies fight crime.
It does not hurt knowing your neighbour in the village or estate or even the workplace.
4. Speak against terror and crime
Some people knowingly or unknowingly interact and even accommodate terror and criminal agents.
We must be curious and stop being friendly to terrorist sympathisers.
It will cause us more harm if we knowingly interact with criminal and terror suspects and fail to expose them to the authorities.
It will take as a collective responsibility to win the war against terrorism.
Remember terrorism does not know religion, family, friends or status and we must all stand against it.
