Veteran politician Koigi Wa Wamwere says that the political silence during the relaunch of Rivatex factory on Friday was planned, in a bid to retain calm and an image of good blood.
The Eldoret function saw President Uhuru Kenyatta reunite with his deputy William Ruto in the company some of his fiercest critics.
Wamwere who is a former MP for Subukia says that the plan was to prevent an encounter, with the organizers well aware that some attendees would go overboard if given a chance.
He based this on the said growing rivalry between the Uhuru and Ruto's camps, one that can be characterized by the exchange of words that he been witnessed between them lately.
The former MP noted that there was most likely eagerness among Ruto's allies to engage in politics, some of whom have been pushing Uhuru to declare his stand on Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, which would have disrupted the function.
"People were eager, they (organizers) also knew that some people, if given the opportunity, would cause more trouble, so there was a plan to deny them the opportunit.y (Watu walikuwa na uchu, pia walijua eti watu wengine wakipewa nafasi wataleta vurugu zaidi, kukawa na mpango wasipate nafasi)," he said.
The former Assistant Cabinet Minister made the remarks during an interview on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show on Saturday evening.
He added that it was also in line with Uhuru's anti-premature politics calls, forcing the leaders present to steer of politics to prevent being seen as disrespecting the Head of State.
However, Wamwere noted that the group has been engaging in campaigns, just as is being said.
"Encouraging politics are possible, but what have been happening are campaigns. (Siasa za kuhimiza zinawezekana, lakini zile ambazo zimekuwa zikipigwa ni siasa za kampeni)," he said.
This came barely a week after Uhuru told off Ruto's allies who have been actively involved in politics, specifically the 2022 general elections, advising them to concentrate on service delivery.
