Kuria has criticised Duale over a plot to have the House reject the nomination of former Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chair Sara Serem as Kenya's Ambassador to China.

Duale has threatened to teach Serem a lesson, arguing that the 11th parliament suffered in her the hands after she declined to increase their salaries during her tenure as SRC chair, a move he claims hindered their service delivery as Members of Parliament.

"Mr Speaker, those members who were in the 11th Parliament and even those in the 12th Parliament, you know how we have been reduced in terms of leadership scale in the country. What the Parliament went through under Sarem, and God is great I have another opportunity to discuss and vet her again. She didn't know she will be nominated for a position that needs vetting," said Duale.

Kuria, however, defended Serem, and asked her to ignore the threats by Duale.

Duale's move was also criticised by Kajiodo South MP Katoo Ole Metito, who said Duale's remarks amount to intimidation.

“If we begin to make pronouncements even before nominees appear, it is equal to intimidation and prejudicial. Some nominees may resolve to withdraw from process saying it won’t be fair,” he said.
