When he died on the 20 January 1994, former Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga was ranked among the nation's polygamous top politicians who left behind many children, among them opposition leader and celebrated politician Raila Odinga.
His first wife Mary Ajuma who was the biological mother of Raila and his elder brother and East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) lawmaker Oburu Oginga had died 10 years earlier.
As a man with a great appetite for women, Oginga had a total of five wives; Ajuma, Gaudencia Adeya, Nyar Uyoma, Susan Agik and Betty Rosa Adongo.
In 1996 when the family decided to divide the property left by Oginga, Rosa was only 35 years old and Agik was 36.
Ironically, Raila was 16 years older than his step-mother Rosa and 17 years older than Agik.
Also, he was 42 years older than his last-born sibling Wilson Ating’a, one of the many children of one of the last two wives. Ating’a was only 9 at the time while Raila, the second born of Oginga was 51.
Oginga who left behind among others a 140-acre piece of land in Sakwa, Siaya County and an undisclosed amount of money in banks had not written his will by the time of his death.
Odinga and Oburu both got 4 per cent of the wealth.
Susan Agik and Betty Rosa also got a similar amount with the remaining portion going to the children.
