October is a breast cancer awareness month. How much have you examined yourself to see if you have developing cancer on your breast?
Here are five ways to find out if you are safe or not;
1. Stand before a mirror naked, and examine your breasts. Check out for abnormal growth on the breasts.
Check the size of your breasts to ascertain it as the normal size, the shape and colour should be normal as always.
Visible swelling, distorted growth, bulging of the nipples change in nipple position, inverted nipples, redness on the nipples or a rash or some swelling, are visible signs that you need to visit a doctor to find out your breast cancer status.
2. Raise your arms before a mirror and repeat the process of re-examining your breast.
3. Check for any discharge from the breasts (nipples). If the discharge is watery, milky, yellow fluid, or blood oozing out of the nipples, then you need to visit a doctor as quickly as possible.
4. Lie on your back, then massage your left breast using your right hand; do the same on the other breast with your right side. Feel for lumps or any abnormal growth in your breast.
If you have any of the above symptoms, then visit a doctor for cross-examination and guidance on how to avert cancer and possible measures you can take to treat it.
Breast cancer is preventable, with early detection and diagnosis.
