Through his communication unit, the County Boss detailed that he had been invited by the European Committee of the Regions and the European Commission (EC) to attend the European Commission's forum on cities and regions for development co-operation.

“The main highlight of the forum will be the launch of a new grant to support global/international framework for local sustainable development,” reads a statement released by his communication team.

“The Governor will also speak at a side event of the United Cities and Local Governments in Africa (UCLGA) alongside eight other prominent leaders from Africa,” adds the statement.

Last year, Kisumu was granted the unique opportunity of hosting the 9th edition of the African Cities (Africities) Summit set to be held in 2021.

The announcement was made by UCLG-Africa Secretary General Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi, in Marrakesh, Morocco in November last year.

Governor Nyong’o has made numerous trips abroad since being elected in August 2017, with a section of Kisumu County residents openly questioning the impact of his trips abroad to the economic development of the Lakeside County.

Last year, former Kisumu County gubernatorial aspirant Dr Hezron Otieno Mc'obewa branded him the ‘most airborne Luo’ due to the number of trips he has made abroad since replacing former Governor Jack Ranguma.
