On Wednesday in a phone interview Mbui said that the decision to have Peter Mathuki as Wavinya's running mate was not made by one person but the whole party.

"Mathuki will continue to be Wavinya's deputy even in the runoff and that should not be a topic for discussion the party settled for the two last year and no change will be made on that," said Mbui.

He said that Mathuki also has his supporters who threw weight behind him in the last election and are willing to support the duo in the by-election.

Mbui who doubles as the party's organising secretary said that Kamba leaders should respect Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and avoid smearing his name with mud.

He said that leaders should stop politicising the by-election to gain political mileage.

"Kalonzo is a national leader, not a local one and leaders should learn to accord him the respect he deserves, you can't just wake up one day and start defaming him anyhow," said Mbui.

Currently, there is turmoil in the party as former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama is calling for the replacement of Mathuki as Wavinya's deputy.

On Monday, Muthama said that Mathuki isn't fit to deputise Wavinya and Wiper party will regret if it doesn't heed to his advice.
