The class eight girl tripped and fell into the dam while fetching water.

She is reportedly said to have been in the company of other girls.

Area assistant chief, Patrick Mutisya confirmed the incident on phone.

He said that the girl died before help to save her could arrive.

He warned parents against sending underage kids to such large water sources.

"Children under ten years should not be sent to the river while the older ones should be accompanied by an adult anytime they go to the river," said Mutisya.

Mutisya called on all parents to be cautious in the kind of engagements their children are on this April holiday.

"You should continue with your day to day chores as you did when the kids were in school instead of endangering them by sending them to water sources that may turn tragic," he said.

The body of the girl was taken to Mutomo funeral home for preservation.
