The strengthening of the bond between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga can be frustrating, to some extent, to the Deputy President William Ruto.
These circumstances have led DP Ruto to forcefully support the handshake for the sake of the unity with his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
To start with, as seen through the reactions of DP Ruto's close friends, the prevailing political climate seems unfriendly to the Deputy President.
The President's engagement with the 2017's general elections' competitor, Raila Odinga, is slowly reducing the political enmity between Raila and Ruto.
In this scenario, it can be clearly observed that DP Ruto is humbled in a way to avoid any verbal altercations that may risk his relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Thus, he has to follow the footsteps of the handshake, through pretense or by commitment.
The Deputy President is eyeing the presidential seat but he is also aware that the ODM party leader, Raila Odinga has vied for the same unsuccessfully over years.
Therefore psychology and common sense can tell that Raila is going to be his close competitor come 2022.
The problem is, what if Uhuru falls in love too much with this competitor?
Will he find it easy to back his presidential bid in 2022? Will he keep quiet? Or will he support the rival?"
These questions can be tricky to answer, frustrating and unpromising to DP Ruto but he has nothing to do apart from keeping himself close to his longtime ally - President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Either, he must avoid engaging in conversations that might break up their relationship.
