Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has seemingly edged his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho in the battle for the Coast region's supremacy, at least if the Sunday declaration by a section of the region's politicians is anything to go by.
While speaking during an event to celebrate Mijikenda culture at the Karisa Maitha Grounds in Kilifi, Kilifi North MP Owen Baya hit out at Joho saying that he had failed to unite the region as he is busy engaging politicians from other parts of the country.
"The other man has failed to unite the region. He has started talks with leaders from other regions without involving us," said the legislator even as they affirmed his support for Kingi as the region's spokesperson.
While trying to play it safe, Kingi steered clear of his new role. He however reiterated the need for the region to remain united ahead of the 2022 political contest.
The new political developments leaves Joho in an awkward political dilemma which could handicap his State House bid come the next general election.
As for Kingi, he might have edged out the Mombasa Governor in the battle for the region's over one million Mijikenda votes.
