A 22-year-old man from Mwongori village in Borabu, Nyamira County took poison on Thursday after realising he has been having an affair with a married woman.
Confirming the incident, area police boss Michael Lesmum said the deceased Boniface Nyaruri Obare was in the process of marrying Teresa Moraa only to find out that she was married.
"Obare has been working hard to marry the woman who lied to him that she is not married. Obare got wind about the woman's husband and upon asking her family members, they revealed to the deceased that she was married to another man," said Lesmum.
He said efforts by the deceased family to rush him to hospital for treatment were in vain.
"The deceased was rushed to a local hospital for treatment but, he could not survive since medics said the poison he took was very strong and spread fast in the blood stream causing his death," he added.
Lesmum said the body was moved to Nyamira County hospital.
He urged men not to take their own lives whenever they are played with women.
