Hours after Deputy President William Ruto left Nyeri after attending a Medical Camp organized in commemoration of former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua, a section of area leaders have accused the DP of running early campaigns.
At Kangema on Saturday, the angry legislators vowed to tame their counterparts from the region supporting Tanga Tanga movement, a team associated with the DP.
The function was attended by several lawmakers, among them Maina Kamanda (nominated), Ngunjiri Wambugu (Nyeri Town), Paul Koinange (Kiambaa), Muturi Kigano (Kangema), Naomi Shaban (Taveta) and a host of Nyeri and Muranga ward representatives.
Former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru accused the Tanga Tanga team of allegedly sabotaging President Uhuru Kenyatta's service delivery plans, adding that not even Ruto will rescue them in 2022 polls.
"If they think their master can assist them secure their elective positions, let them resign and seek fresh mandate under their master," Mr Waweru said.
Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange added:
"There is no smaller or bigger thief. All of them must be apprehended, and if need be hanged to serve as examples to potential thieves."
But Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu was more specific, saying the team now dubbed Mt Kenya and Diaspora Forum, will vehemently protect Uhuru by attending church services to denounce Ruto's team.
"If it were not for the President, I would not be in Parliament today. He came to Nyeri and pleaded with locals to elect me. So it’s my business to demand that the Head of State is respected," Mr Ngunjiri Wambugu said.
In the recent past, Uhuru has reportedly had cold relationship with Ruto, accusing him of running early campaigns.
