Githinji alias Mrefu whose murder remains a puzzle was killed and his body stuffed in a sack before being dumped at Karia Dam outside Nyeri Town.

The postmortem which was carried out on Monday further revealed that the deceased did not put up any resistance or defence during his murder as there were no defensive injuries on his body.

According to Government pathologist Peter Ndegwa, the strangulation was done by bare hands and a cord.

“It is very clear that the victim died from strangulation both by hand and a cord. There were no signs of torture as there are no visible signs from the body. It is obvious he barely fought back, meaning he was restrained by his attacker(s). Maybe there was more than one attacker,” said Ndegwa, as quoted by the Nation.

The police had initially said that they have launched a manhunt for Githinji over allegations of involvement in robbery.

He went missing last week, barely two weeks after turning himself in alongside a colleague of his, Joseph Kang’ethe, with whom they were implicated in the named crime.

The duo surrendered to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on October 2022, before his disappearance and ultimate murder.

The test was done in the presence of officers from the Independent Medico Legal Unit (IMLU), Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Muslim for Human Rights (MUHURI) lobby group.
