Outspoken Nandi Hills lawmaker Alfred Keter is among the few legislators from the North Rift region who are fond of attacking Deputy President Dr Wiliam Ruto.
Some of his attacks on the DP revolve around issues to do with the referendum, fight against graft and the selective allocation of public resources.
However, a good percentage of the electorate in Nandi County is loyal to the DP, including residents of Nandi Hills Constituency which is Keter’s home turf.
Having shown interest to unseat Governor Steven Sang in 2022, Keter has a tough choice to make on whether to keep being Ruto's critic or cross over to the DP's camp with hopes of receiving support from the DP's supporters.
Keter is set to face an uphill task in his attempt to the clinch the Nandi gubernatorial seat if he maintains his anti-Ruto campaigns.
The fearless lawmaker must decide whether to go it alone and face the people without lobbying for the DP’s endorsement.
However, he can decide to join hands with DP’s camp, a move that might earn him the support he requires to clinch the seat.
The vocal MP can also choose to shelf his gubernatorial ambitions and instead focus his energy on defending his MP seat.
These are some of the tough choices that await the outspoken lawmaker ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Considering he narrowly survived an election petition that was believed to have been pushed by the DP’s camp, Keter will have to play his cards well to capture any elective position in 2022.
