Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga have been pushing the BBI debate since their 2018 truce, which has seen some Jubilee Party politicians accuse Raila of bewitching Uhuru.

But in an interview on Punchline, Sunday, Mudavadi doubted the involvement of witchcraft in the union. He observed that Uhuru has demonstrated a complete commitment to the BBI.

The former Vice President said that those citing witchcraft are exaggerating their hate for the union, which now seems to be taking a political turn.

"I think that is a little bit overstretched, I don't think Uhuru believes witchcraft. I don't know if going forward there will be any circumstance that might force him to take a different stand," he said.

He was speaking in the context of his flopped 2013 alliance with Uhuru, where he claims that Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto promised him their support presidential race.

According to Mudavadi, the two approached him with the plan, where they agreed to make their alliance public in two weeks, only for him to see Uhuru disowning him days later, claiming that demons misled him into approaching him.

He said that he doesn't believe that he was the demon being referred to, but Uhuru was simply saying that he was misled, not necessarily by him.

"At that time he was saying that he had been misled. In my view, by other forces. I don't know whether I was the one who was the demon in this context but it would appear somewhere along the line, he had reflexions and thought they were demons," he added.

After the scuttled alliance, Uhuru and Ruto proceeded to win the presidency while Mudavadi appeared a distant third, after ODM leader Raila Odinga.
