Kilifi County Governor Amason Kingi, celebrated his 44th birthday as he attended the 2018 International Conservation Caucus Summit in Washington DC, United States of America, on Wednesday, September 26.
The former Magarini MP and first Kilifi governor was born in Malindi in 1974.
During the event, the governor said it is the people's responsibility to conserve our natural resources, address threats and explore opportunities in conservation.
"I call upon the National Assembly to take up the role of addressing natural resource management challenges by passing laws that will ensure environmental conservation and sustainable utilization of natural resources."
He said these laws will address the rising cases of illegal fishing, illegal logging, illegal extraction of resources and mineral extraction.
"We must, however, understand that every person has a duty to protect the environment in order to ensure our country's sustainable development," the governor said.
Several leaders sent him birthday messages including his deputy, Eng Gideon Saburi who said: "As you mark your years of existence on earth today, I join others in wishing you a very happy birthday. May you have many more years and sound health to stay with us and continue to lead! Happy birthday the Governor of Kilifi."
