Two people among them a top County Assembly of Nyamira official were on Monday mourning killed following a road accident along Kisii-Nyamira road near Sironga Girls High School
According to an eye witness James Orina, the accident involved a car, a canter and bodaboda with the confusion reportedly arising from the motorbike rider who was trying make a U-turn.
"It was avoidable. The Bodaboda guy brought all the confusions and ended up causing the accident. The driver of the car was trying to evade knocking down the rider before he had a head-on collision with the canter," Orina said.
The accident comes barely a fortnight after several people died at Wote in Makueni when a bus lost control and killed dozens of people, among them a security officer of governor Ali Roba.
County Commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed the incident, adding that bodaboda rider died on support and the driver of the car, identified as Enock Nyakundi, Human Resource officer in Assembly.
"It was a bad accident. We have lost two lives; a bodaboda rider and a worker at the county assembly of Nyamira. Their bodies have been taken to Nyamira County Hospital for preservation," he said.
On Saturday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, who attended a fundraiser at Bomondo, at least 4 kilometers from the scene of accident, warned rogue drivers against reckless driving.
During the event, Matiang'i also challenged security officers along the highway to arrest and arraign rogue motorists. He was responding to questions from Nyamira Township MCA Duke Masira, who decried incidents of accidents along the road.
