Veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday weighed in on the ongoing debate on corruption, saying that he would not protect those who engage in corruption not even if they are his relatives.

He spoke in an exclusive interview with the Voice of America Swahili Service from Germany.

"I have said that I will not defend corrupt individuals. If you engage in graft, I will not come to your rescue even if we came from the same womb. I will not protect you even if you are my blood brother," Mr Odinga said.

The last few days have seen top-level government officials arrested over alleged involvement in corruption.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has been on an arresting spree targeted at the corrupt.

Odinga reiterated his support for the war on corruption that has plagued the country for decades.
