A section of Journalists from the Nyanza region on Wednesday condemned the attack of a Standard Media Group reporter in Homabay on Tuesday.
In a press statement, Kisumu Journalists Network Interim chairman Rushdie Oudia termed the attack as barbaric and uncalled for.
"We have noted with utmost disappointment, anger and disgust the manner in which journalists were attacked by rogue police officers in Homabay.
“We condemn in the strongest terms possible the police brutality meted on James Omoro, a correspondent with Standard Group covering chaos in Homabay County Assembly when police attacked them injuring Omoro, confiscated his camera and destroyed it,” the statement read in part.
Oudia further noted that an attack on one of them is an attack on the entire team, and urged the police leadership in the region to move with speed, identify the culprits and take stern action against them.
The Tuesday incident left Omoro injured and his Nikon camera confiscated as Ramogi FM reporter Ali Abich was forced to flee the scene after the police allegedly started running after him.
