The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) will call for a strike on September 1 if the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) does not drop what has been termed as draconian policies.
KNUT secretary general Wilson Sossion, who spoke in Njoro during the burial of former KNUT Nakuru executive secretary Njau Kuria Njau, said they have not been consulted over the changes.
“The implementation of the dictatorial and improperly negotiated policies has affected the morale of teachers,” Sossion said.
Among the policies is appraisal and recognition of teachers, delocalization of teachers and discontinuation of recognition of new relevant higher qualification for teachers among others.
Sossion said delocalization of teachers is to blame for the recent wave of unrest in schools. He said 58 out of the 63 schools that have witnessed unrest were affected by the delocalisation policy.
