Local leaders in Kisii County have reacted after President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday evening left the country for Beijing, China where he is expected to attend the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Ex-Bonchari MP Protus Kebati Momanyi stated that President Uhuru's numerous tours to foreign countries will boost the economy of the country because he will be marketing the country.
"President Uhuru should use the opportunity to market the country so that we can have more investors from foreign countries coming to invest in the country for the sake of boosting the economy," he said in Kisii Town.
The former lawmaker said state officials should not use President Uhuru's absence to embezzle funds meant for development.
Daniel Ombasa, the Tabaka ward MCA who was elected on a Jubilee party ticket during the last year's polls said President Uhuru's foreign trips will bring goodies to the country.
He also urged leaders not to politicize Uhuru's foreign trips.
"Leaders should be happy with the president touring foreign countries because he will learn one or two things which will help the country to grow economically. Politics should be put aside and focus on serving the electorates," said he.
Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi urged critics to keep off Uhuru's tours because he is committed to improve the lives of people and create more jobs for youths.
"The President will meet private investors in China and ask them to invest in the country. Once foreigners set up businesses in the country, our youths will get jobs thus boosting livelihoods," Angwenya observed.
