Deputy President William Samoei Ruto shared roasted maize with locals at Endebess in Trans Nzoia County on Saturday.
Given this is a rare chance for residents to interact with the deputy president, the act arose reactions in social media.
A self-proclaimed hustler, Ruto, bought locals some roasted maize which clearly showed they were excited by photos shared in Ruto's official Facebook page. Ruto revealed he was happy to buy such maize from a business lady at Mowlem.
"Sharing mahindi choma with residents of Mowlem, Endebess, Trans Nzoia County. Chepkemei Simatwa told me about her hustle and I was happy to chip in," DP Ruto noted.
According to a section of Ruto's Facebook fans, he is a humble man who respects locals. Some wished him God's favour has he continue to lead country.
"Very nice Dr.Ruto, happy are those who are meek for they shall be made great, I like your simplicity and humility His Excellency Ruto, God guides and protects you nyiyanet (warrior), " Boniface Tuwei acknowledged Ruto in a comment.
Others, however, questioned most fans who were happy with Ruto's act asking if that actually identifies a leader. The followers further cited former president Mwai Kibaki and current president Uhuru Kenyatta as better leaders.
"Does interacting freely with common mwanachi make one a good leader? Maybe or Maybe not. Compare Uhuru and Kibaki. Who was a better leader? One is very reserved while the other is 'Mtu wa watu'," he noted.
