President Uhuru Kenyatta and his colleague, Uganda's President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, have agreed on a number of deals that will see the economy of the two countries grow faster.
In their meeting held on March 27 in Mombasa, the two leaders discussed a number of issues that concern the security of their countries and transport sector, specifically focusing on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) that is set to be stretched to Uganda.
Uhuru said more border posts will be opened between Kenya and Uganda to create a wide market for good businesses. He added that the post at Busia has indeed served a meaningful purpose.
“The Busia border post has served its purpose and we have witnessed more fruits from that entry point but time has now come to open up more entry points along our borders,” said Uhuru as quoted by the Standard.
On the other hand, Museveni congratulated Kenya for the advancements they have made at the Kenya Ports and the bold steps made in coming up with the SGR.
Museveni hailed Uhuru over how he has made it faster to transport cargo from Kenya to Uganda, where there is 'no begging' anymore.
"We had to beg for cargo to be moved to Uganda, the officials thought they were doing Uganda favour without knowing that they were only sabotaging the two economies,” said Museveni.
As reported by Uhuru, a commission had been tasked to probe a long lasting solution for Migingo Island which has been the source of conflict between Kenya and Uganda. Moreover, Museveni said more discussions on security will be held so that peace prevails.
Museveni is in Mombasa for a two-day state visit.
