As Kenyans joined the whole world in celebrating the day of workers, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho did the unexpected through an executive directive to the ministry of health in his county.
In a Facebook post, Joho revealed that he had directed the health department to waive all pending bills for the patients at two hospitals in his county.
"I directed the Department of health to waive all bills for patients in our level 4 hospital at Port Reitz and Coast General Hospital who had been discharged but were unable to settle their bills due to financial constraints," read his Facebook post.
Governor Joho also expressed appreciation to all the county workers for the transformation and success they have made Mombasa achieve through their relentless efforts while they have been undertaking to serve the residents to their satisfaction.
Kenyans in different parts of the country joined the rest of the world and expressed optimism for salary increment by President Uhuru Kenyatta only for the head of state to boycott this year's labour day celebrations.
The National celebrations were held at Uhuru Park, Nairobi with Labor CS Ukur Yattani skipping to delve into the 15% increment of the salary proposed by the COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli.
