It has emerged that Deputy President William Ruto's recent conversation with a poor family in Turkana county was not prearranged and was solely out of a coincidence.
This is after the DP and area Governor Josphat Nanok were pictured having a conversation with the family, and the DP engaging the children who were largely naked.
Turkana West MP Daniel Epuyo who was present, said that Ruto had to stop over at the homestead on Lotikipi Plains on his way from function, after being attracted by the deserted homestead.
He said that Ruto spotted the homestead from his chopper, and ordered an immediate landing out of curiosity.
"We flew over Lotikipi plains in Turkana West, our main activity in the morning. In the middle of the journey, we saw some families that captured the DP's interest," the MP who acted as a translator as the family understood neither English nor Swahili told the Nation.
He said that the family would later be found to be of one Mr Lowoos Ekebe, adding that Ruto also sought to know how Kenyans of that area survive, resulting in a long conversation.
"We asked them how they lived, where they got water for domestic use, where they bought food and whether the children went to school," he added.
He added that the family, which was terrified at the sight of the DP and did not recognize him at all, also got a chance to air their problems to the DP.
