The 2022 presidential race is for Raila Odinga to lose, his allies have said.
Speaking in Rarieda on Saturday during the burial of Jubilee Party secretary-general Raphael Tuju’s brother, Siaya Senator James Orengo and ODM chairman John Mbadi said Raila has never been so close to power.
The two leaders, addressing mourners, said the handshake has catapulted Raila to the power axis in Kenya and he ‘smells it’.
“Never before has Raila been this close to power. And there are all indications that those people (Central Kenya people) will vote for Raila,” Mbadi said.
Orengo, who is one of Raila’s legal advisers and ardent supporters, said the March 9 Handshake has made Raila a darling to a good chunk of Mt Kenya voters and he will, therefore, get hundreds of thousands of voters from the region.
According to the leaders, the 2022 presidential race will be a battle between their party leader Raila and Deputy President William Ruto.
It is also during the burial that Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe continued his attacks on the Deputy President insisting that he must retire with President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
Failure to that, Murathe said, he will rush to the apex court to block him.
