Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eugene Wamalwa has praised Ukambani governors for forming the Peoples Empowerment Movement (PEM) to champion development in the region.
Wamalwa said the movement will take the region's development to another level if the leaders focus on its core objective.
Speaking on Friday in Kitui South when he donated iron sheets to victims of 2018 floods, the CS said the national government will work with the governors to push for equitable development.
He said formation of regional blocs and movements is the way to go in push for development and service delivery to citizens.
“We are going to work with the Ukambani governors on key development projects that will transform the lives of the citizens," Wamalwa said.
Wamalwa said Ukambani counties have become a model for others to benchmark on development projects.
“There is good development work going on in Makueni, Machakos and even Kitui,” he said.
Wamalwa asked elected leaders to take advantage of devolution to serve the people.
He said devolution was conceived to champion development in the grassroot.
The CS, however, called on elected leaders to stop playing politics with development.
Wamalwa said time for politics will come and leaders must now devote to their duties.
Ukambani governors formed PEM to spearhead development.
The governors have since rubbished claims that the movement is a political tool to curtail Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's dominance in Ukambani politics.
