Before joining Raila's masterclass campaigns in 2007, Ruto said on Saturday, he had a secret power arrangement with Raila that would have seen him ascend to Prime Minister position.

"Kindly pray for me so that these brothers support me. I backed them in 2007 and now that I am almost there, they should reciprocate the same," he said in reference to power sharing deal with Raila.

In the arrangement, Raila was to be president, Musalia Mudavadi his deputy while Ruto the country's PM.

Instead, Ruto argued, Raila short-changed him when the ODM party was offered PM position in grand coalition government.

"You all know what happened and Ting'a (Raila) took my position after we failed to get presidency.

"They shared with the position with my brother Musalia and left me with nothing. I deserve their support," he said.

This is the first time Ruto is revealing intrigues behind his cold relationship with Raila, who he dumped in 2011.

After the 2007 polls, Raila would be appointed PM following a peace deal that was brokered with the late UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

But in a rejoinder, Raila's brother, Oburu Oginga, dismissed Ruto's assertion, insisting that he was building himself.

"He never supported anyone and there was no MOU. He was just behind his career," he said.
