Yamune 

This is a word of greeting, loosely translated to ‘how are you doing?’ the response is ‘achamege.’ Greetings are important in the Kalenjin land. 

Kongoi 

When you want to thank someone you say ‘kongoi.’ And if you want to say ‘thank you very much’ you say ‘kongoi mising.’ 

Ngebe 

When you want to tell someone ‘let’s go’ ‘ngebe’ will come in handy. 

Kale ii 

This phrase is where the word Kalenjin was derived. Basically, all the Kalenjin subtribes share this. ‘Kale ii’ means ‘I am telling you’ or ‘I am saying.‘

Cheiso 

Your stay in Eldoret will not be complete before you know the name Kalenjins call God, Cheiso that is. In the ancient traditional society, the Kalenjins called God Asisi (the sun). Kiptayat is also another name used in reference to God. 

 Olo 

This word means no. 

Motinye

 It means I don’t have. 

Achamin  

If you have fallen in love with Chebet, tell her ‘achamin.’

Murenju 

This word means ‘guys.’ It is mostly used by boys or men.
