The parliamentarian has termed this as the reason behind the Governor Ferdinand Waititu-led administration's attempts to fence the 10-acre piece of land at the heart of the county.

According to Wainaina, the plot also involves some private investors who are eyeing the site for private development and who want to use it for commercial purposes.

The MP spoke while issuing bursary cheques at General Kago Primary School, where he also claimed that a powerful politician and county officials have ganged up in the plan.

However, the claims have been rubbished by Thika Town administrator Ephraim Njihi who termed the construction of the perimeter wall as a security measure.

“We decided to construct the wall after Mount Kenya University students complained to the county government over increased insecurity cases,” said Njihi on Monday.

On his part, area Deputy County Commissioner Douglas Mutai welcomed the move to fence the cemetery but denied having any knowledge about cases of insecurity in the area.

This comes days after area residents chased away a group of county workers who were trying to put up the fence.
