Chilling details of activities within Al-Shabaab camps have emerged.
A reformed fighter, who was trained in Somalia around 2012, talked to CNN and gave harrowing experiences within the militants’ secret holes where youths are radicalised.
Radicalisation, according to the young man, starts by volunteers crossing over to Somalia.
They are then introduced to gory undertakings that are ‘meant to remove fear’.
In one instance that the reformer underwent during brainwashing was beheading a prisoner of war.
The source narrated how they were taken through the steps to decapitate the victim.
Every attacker would saw the neck of the victim for seconds before passing the knife to the next fighter.
"That's part of the brainwashing. They told us it's part of the training,” the man told CNN.
After they beheaded the victim, they were then told to surround the head and kick it like football."It's to reduce fear in you," he added.
It has also been revealed that suicide bombers are picked from the fighters and taken for specialized training that lasts up to a year.
The scoop by the CNN gives a glimpse into the brutal acts that go on in the camps.
