Maize and wheat farmers from the North Rift region now want President Uhuru Kenyatta to visit Eldoret town and meet them.
Eldoret is arguably the capital of the North Rift, popularly referred to as the country's grain basket.
Led by David Kiprono, the farmers say they believe meeting the Head of State one-on-one will help put to end problems they have been encountering year in year out.
“We are calling upon president Kenyatta to at least have a one week visit to Eldoret like he did in Mombasa and invite us to state lodge so that he can hear from the horse's mouth our cries, sufferings and what we want him to do,” said Kiprono in Eldoret town on Monday.
“We suspect that the leaders we sent to speak to the president don't do so. So we want to meet him face to face so that we can solve this problem once and for all,” he added.
Kiprono who was speaking after a farmers meeting said they have gone through a lot of suffering and frustrations and that the only person to save them is the president.
Maize and wheat farmers have been facing a lot of challenges ranging from delayed pay, a delayed supply of subsidized fertilizer among other things despite agriculture being termed as the backbone of the nation.
