Chaos erupted at Ekerenyo market on Monday after a Jubilee politician assaulted a top ODM youth leader from Nyamira County over their differences in local politics.
Ekerenyo MCA Thaddius Nyabaro boxed ODM Youth League leader Dennis Marube after a confrontation in the presence of County Secretary Mr Erick Onchana.
An eye witness Mr Fred Obare said Mr Nyabaro, who is serving a second term, confronted Marube before both leaders went physical.
"Nyabaro confronted Mr Marube and started beating him. This happened in the presence of County Secretary Erick Onchana. They had to be separated by youths who had gathered around," he said.
Mr Nyabaro has been facing resistance from Marube, who never hesitates to question his leadership. The two often quarrel in social gatherings and are set to face each other in 2022.
In a phone interview, Mr Marube accused Nyabaro of living in denial, adding that he is afraid of his presence in local politics. He vowed to continue criticising the MCAs leadership.
"There was a misunderstanding but he decided to go physical. He's fond of politics of confrontation and I don't want to go that route. We shall not hesitate to question his deeds," said Marube.
Early this year, Nyabaro was also accused on unleashing bees at a meeting in a Kisumu hotel after differing with one of his colleagues. A fight had broke out between the two after an argument.
