The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has transferred non-local teachers from two schools in Mandera County following Sunday’s attack by Al-Shabaab militants.
Yusuf Abdullahi, the county TSC boss said at least nine non-local teachers will be affected by the decision to move the teachers to safer areas.
Abdullahi said the decision to transfer the teachers was reached at after armed Al-Shabaab militants attacked Hareri Hosle village on Sunday.
He said the teachers are from Libehia and Sarohindi primary schools in Mandera East and they will be moved to Khalalio, Barwaqo, Buruburu and Mandera township primary schools.
The aim of the transfer is to ensure that non-local teachers who were working in a village near Hareri Hosle are protected, added Abdullahi.
The TSC boss, however, said the move to transfer the teachers is temporary until security is restored in the area.
“We took the move after Hareri Hosle village was attacked last week. This is a temporary measure as the situation is being monitored by security officers,” said Abdullahi.
During the Sunday attack, the militants raided a food store in Mandera town and made away with food and a gun with ammunition belonging to one of the Kenya Police Reserve (KPR) officer who was injured following an exchange of fire between the militants and local security agents.
