Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has a fresh warning to Nairobi tycoons.
He warned that he will not tolerate business moguls who destroy trees to make their advertisement billboards visible.
Sonko who made the warning public through his official Facebook page on Tuesday said there has been a growing tendency where business people cut down trees to make billboards erected in strategic parts of Nairobi City County visible.
"I will not tolerate nonsense," Sonko, a former MP and Senator in the city said.
"The tycoons who indiscriminately cut down trees for their advertisements on billboards to be visible must be arrested and charged in accordance with the Law. They should also be forced to plant 1,000 trees per one tree cut or their billboards will be brought down just the same way they cut down the trees," he added.
Nairobi is a prime business hub and thousands of billboards advertising various goods and services have been erected all over, from suburb estates to low-scale zones.
Sonko said there must be a decent way of spreading the outdoor advertising platforms without necessarily tampering with the green environment in the city.
Nairobi is ranked high among the most green cities in Africa and boasts of being the largest city in East and Central Africa.
