Mrs Jane Wambui Kariuki was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) in mid-2018 after battling with diabetes for 20 years.

A kidney transplant is the treatment of choice for the disease.

Jane's son, Solomon Kariuki, is a compatible donor but the family lacks the funds required for the surgery.

After Hivisasa highlighted Jane's story last week, the family has received contributions amounting to Sh185,000.  Prior to the article being published, the family had raised Sh20,000 through the Pay bill number 891300.

Solomon also noted that the article helped people to get a better understanding of what his mother was going through.

"The story also helped explain the situation in a simpler way and most people understood where we were coming from and why we are doing a fundraiser," said Solomon.

The family held a fundraiser on March 2, 2019, where they raised Sh1.3 million and an additional Sh200,000 in pledges. The money raised is projected to be enough to cater for the transplant.

Solomon is now appealing to friends and well-wishers to help them raise the remaining Sh1 million which will cater for the drugs Jane is required to take for the rest of her life once she undergoes the surgery.

Contributions can be made via M-Pesa pay bill 891300 account name Janewambui or Equitel pay bill 891300  business number Jane Wambui.

The family also has an M-Changa account to facilitate the same and you can send your contributions through this link: http://tinyurl.com/ya5ym97b
