Addressing Raila on Saturday at Ukaya village in Siaya County during the 60th anniversary of Nehemiah Oyoo (Ida Odinga’s father), Buyu said that Mama Ida has stood with him during his worst moments, among them detention during previous regimes.

“If a woman is praised the way Ida Odinga is being praised, does it not mean that she deserves an addition of bride price?” she paused in Dholuo.

“Jakom (Raila) should stop playing with us. I am from Sakwa and I am married in Kisumu. Jakom is my brother; he should stop shaming the people of Sakwa. I hope Jakom has heard me,” she said amid applause, laughter and giggles from those present.

Buyu went on to thank Mama Ida for having stood with Raila, despite all he has gone through in his political journey.

Odinga was detained severally during President Daniel Arap Moi’s reign. The legislator said that Mama Ida is a strong and committed family woman, insisting that any other woman would have left Raila during his days in detention.

Odinga and Ida have been married for more than 40 years. They are blessed with four children; the late Fidel, Rosemary, Raila Junior, and Winnie Odinga.
