She quit her radio career to venture into the world of politics just a few months to the 2017 general election.

Waithira Muthirania, Inooro FM's breakfast show host, was seeking to oust Murang'a County Women Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege.

The two talented presenters had worked together in late 2000 at the State-owned Coro FM before Muithirania was poached by Royal Media Services (RMS) which is owned by tycoon S.K Macharia.

During the August 8, 2017 election, Chege defeated her colleague to retain her seat but Muithirania, who vied as an independent candidate, proved she wasn't a pushover after she garnered over 100,000 votes in the hotly contested race.

After she was sent to political oblivion, most of her fans expected Muithirania to take back her job at Inooro FM but that never came to pass.

Instead, 'Baruthi Wa Urimi', as she is famously known, ventured into private business.

Before she quit radio, Muithirania had pioneered Menya Kihoto Giaku (Know Your Rights) show which aired over the weekends.

The former 'Hagaria' show host's highest moment came early this year when she landed a plum State job.

Muithirania was appointed as a board member to the Kenya Industrial Estates Limited for a period of three years.

In her acceptance statement, she thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta and Cooperatives and Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya for believing in her and promised to do her best for the corporation which is critical in the realisation of one of Uhuru's Big Four agenda- manufacturing.

"I hereby in earnest pledge and commit to do and offer my level best service towards this in my capacity as a board member," the former journalist posted on her Facebook page.

With Chege rumoured to be eyeing another position in 2022, Muithirania is expected to make another attempt at occupying the Women Representative seat in Murang'a County.
