A 35-year-old man lost his life in Keroka when he allegedly brought a second wife to his home on Christmas, something that prompted his first wife to burn him beyond recognition.
The man who was initially operating as a conductor of matatu in Nyamira married a second wife on 25th which made his first wife set the house on fire where the man was sleeping, causing his death.
The police boss of Keroka Eliud Njiru confirmed the incident on Wednesday morning and said that the first wife who was identified as Jackline Birika Kerubo who allegedly did the evil action ran away three months ago after disagreement emerged in the homestead. The man decided to marry a second wife on Christmas day and coincidentally the first wife came back.
"The first woman Jackline Birika Kerubo had ran away three months ago after a disagreement. She came back after the man had resorted to marry a second wife. She allegedly got angry and burnt the man at night while he was asleep," Njiru said.
The woman insisted on sleeping with the man in the same house despite the pleas from the man to let her sleep in his mother's house as they sort out the issue. The second wife was asked to sleep in the mother's house to let the first one sleep with the man in the house.
At midnight, the woman allegedly woke up and released gas from the gas cooker, then stroke a matchstick letting a crowd of fire consume the house after which she fled.
The body of the deceased was taken to Gucha Mortuary. The police have since then launched a manhunt to pursue the woman and bring her to book.
