A two-year-old boy has lost his life after their house got burnt at Kalimani village in Kibwezi, Makueni County on Friday.
Confirming the incident, Ngulu assistant chief Florence Ng'ata said the boy's mother was not at home when the fire broke out.
Ngulu said the woman had gone to tie her livestock outside her homestead.
She had left the deceased behind, playing outside the house.
The woman was, however, shocked to find the kid inside the house going down in ashes.
"The lady saw flames of fire emerging from her house as she was coming from tying livestock, she ran and tried putting out the fire together with the neighbors," Ng'ata said.
Ng'ata addressed the press at the scene of incident on Friday.
She said neighbors' efforts to put out the fire proved futile, the boy too couldn't be saved.
"The kid was burnt beyond recognition since the neighbors couldn't save him," she added..
Ng'ata said nothing was salvaged, everything in the house was reduced to ashes.
She stated that the cause of the fire is still a mystery but the police have commenced investigations to unravel it.
The body was removed to Makindu Hospital's mortuary.
