The ongoing registration of bodaboda operators in Nakuru County will help address the insecurity challenges.
County Police Commander Stephen Matu says the exercise is meant to crack down a few individuals who have been using the industry for criminal activities.
He sent a stern warning to the individuals who are painting bad image to the industry that for many years has employed many youths.
According to Matu, after they are through with the bodaboda operators, they will also embark on sensitization program.
“I must commend bodaboda operators in Nakuru because 99 per cent are disciplined but there is the 1 percent that are using the industry in the wrong way. We want to make sure there is sanity in the industry," said Matu.
Speaking at his office on Tuesday during an interview on security matters, Matu lauded members of the public and the community policing for the continued support.
He said through the collaboration, the security team has been able to address some of the challenges facing the county.
He also reiterated the County Commissioner’s sentiments during this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations on the outlawed confirm group.
“Crime has reduced in Nakuru County and this can be attributed to the good working relationship between the police and community policing," he noted.
The county security chief also warned a section of youths who are masquerading as street children in Nakuru’s CBD.
He said if the matter is not addressed, they children will turn into criminal groups that will start terrorizing the public.
“We have the menace of children in the street along Kenyatta Avenue whom I don’t want to call street children because they are just coming from the estates. I want to state here that we shall not tolerate such," he added.
