State House mandarins are yet again on spot following a serious breach of protocol on Saturday during the installation of Bishop Philip Anyolo as the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kisumu.
In a function attended by the Deputy President William Ruto, State House entrusted Defense Minister Reychelle Omamo to read President Uhuru Kenyatta's speech.
While it's not immediately clear whether they were aware of Ruto's presence, Raila Odinga invited Ruto before the country's second in command ushered in his junior to read the president's speech, a move which Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo believes was a breach of protocol.
"#BishopAnyoloInnauguration..Interesting matters..., HE Raila invites DP Ruto to Speak, the DP Speaks & invites CS Rachael Omamo to deliver HE Uhuru’s Speech...., would have sworn the work of a Deputy is to Deputise." https://twitter.com/OAmollo/status/1084090537974611969?s=19
Even though Ruto would share podium with Uhuru later on Saturday, the two are rumoured to be engaged in a serious political tussle, which culminated to resignation of Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe a week ago.
Raila Odinga's personal assistant Silas Jakakimba also shared similar sentiments, insisting that State House erred by assigning Ms Omamo to read the speech.
"Serious breach of protocol, Snr. It is incumbent upon the Deputy President, while present in a function, to represent or rather read, the President's speech should the latter be absent. This notwithstanding the fact that State Hse might not have been aware about DP's attendance." https://twitter.com/OAmollo/status/1084090537974611969?s=19
