Speaking at his Karen home in Nairobi on Saturday, Kalonzo, however, said Uhuru and Raila went wrong for not making the handshake all inclusive.

The Ukambani political kingpin argued that the handshake lacked a requisite structure.

He said the agreement between the duo was reached without the other affected parties' knowledge.

Kalonzo said he was among the leaders who were at the forefront in the calls for dialogue prior to the handshake.

“You will remember I was the most ardent champion of dialogue. I could tell the situation was not tenable whichever way you looked at it. The problem was that Raila went it alone and that indeed created a problem but it having become a political reality, we had to move on,” he said during the interview.

The Wiper leader said he has no deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta amid pressure from his allies.

Kalonzo said he met the President as part of the building bridges initiative.

A number of leaders have been pushing Kalonzo to come clean on the details of his meeting with Uhuru.
