Khalwale is now the patron of newly opened Malinya Girls Secondary School in Kakamega County.

On Wednesday, Khalwale who announced his new position on Twitter said he is out to ensure the school shines and effectively competes with nationally recognised schools.

He, however, took a swipe at the national government's latest proposal to have all pupils and students in public school dress in the same uniform throughout the country.

"As the patron and founder of Malinya Girls School, I wish to register our strong opposition to a common uniform for all schools in Kenya," the outspoken former Ikolomani MP twitted.

"Like many other schools, we are quite happy with the choice of our unique school uniform, and advice the Ministry of Education to abandon this misconceived idea."

There is presently a proposal by the Education Ministry that all pupils and students in public schools across the country wear the same uniform, but Khalwale insisted that the idea would not pass.

Education Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang on Monday said the idea came from parents who complain of buying uniform at specific shops expensively.
