A 25-year-old man has told police that he killed his step-son after differences with his wife.
The Murang’a man said he was angered that the mother of the son wanted the child’s biological father’s name to be the one to appear in the birth certificate.
This led to a bitter quarrel which saw his wife run away. She fled with the child and hid him at her mother’s place before leaving for Nairobi.
On Monday, a raging Paul Njoroge went to the in-laws home where he attacked the minor with a machete.
He slashed him as he slept and left the innocent child bleeding profusely.
“When the aunt saw the man wielding a machete, she ran to neighbours calling for help,” a police officer privy to the incident said.
Upon returning together with neighbours, they found the man had inflicted deep cuts on the boy.
“The suspect was determined to kill the child because when the aunt ran away, he forced himself into the house and slashed the deceased severally leaving him for the dead and without touching a cousin of the deceased whom they were sleeping with,” Murang’a County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua said.
The man, after being arrested on Thursday at a hideout, asked for forgiveness saying he regrets his action.
“I was very depressed and furious but I was very remorseful after committing the act,” he told the police.
